Accessibility statement
We want this site to be usable by as many people as possible, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard alone, or a magnified display.

What we are aiming for
We are building this site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA.
We are not claiming to have met that standard. This site has not been audited against it by anyone independent, so what follows is a target and a list of what we have checked ourselves, rather than a result. When the audit has been done, this page will say what was found, what conforms, and what does not.
What we have checked
These were measured in a browser during development, not by an independent auditor:
- every piece of text was measured against the colour actually painted behind it, including where that is a gradient. Everything clears the 4.5:1 the standard asks for except the section labels noted below
- every control that relies on its outline to be visible was measured against the same standard, and the two that fell short were changed
- every interactive element was focused with a keyboard and shows a visible ring, never the browser default
- every tap target is at least 24 by 24 pixels
- a skip link is the first thing a keyboard reaches on every long page
- every form field has a real label rather than a placeholder standing in for one
- the access code field accepts a pasted value, so nobody has to retype a code from memory
- form errors are shown in text as well as colour, and are announced without moving your focus
- each page has one main heading, and heading levels are never skipped
- the site respects your operating system setting for reduced motion, dropping movement while keeping the colour change that tells you something happened
What we know does not meet the standard
The small capitalised label above each section heading sits on a dark gradient. On the sections with a dark background its text reaches 3.6:1 against the lighter end of that gradient, where the standard asks for 4.5:1 at this size. On the sections with a light background the same label is white and reaches 5.7:1, which is fine.
This is a deliberate design choice that we are recording rather than hiding. If you find those labels hard to read, the same words are not needed to follow the page: every one of them is a category name, and the heading directly below it carries the meaning.
What we have not checked
We would rather tell you what is untested than imply everything has been covered:
- the site has not been tested with a screen reader by somebody who uses one every day, which is the test that matters most and the one we have not done
- no testing has been done with speech recognition software, or with screen magnification
- it has not been checked across a range of browsers and assistive technology combinations
- reduced motion was confirmed in the stylesheet rather than by using the site with the setting switched on
- [TO BE CONFIRMED: anything the audit finds, listed here once it has happened]
Telling us about a problem
